The 'proper' football?
As you may or may not know, one of my posts is to understand the rules of American football. If you are English, male and of a similar age to me (25) then you may have fond memories of playing the John Madden NFL games on computers such as the Amiga, Commodore 64, SNES and Megadrive. I would say that pretty much all my mates had a copy of John Madden on some format yet none of us knew how to play it as we didn't understand the rules of American football. Of course, you always had one friend who pretended to know... but they were lying (and they have probably moved on to lying about how much their house has risen in value - you know the sort).
I have had loads of e-mails from kind Americans, mainly living in the UK, who have offered to teach me the rules of this rather baffling, quite violent, name-stealing sport. I have actually bought a copy of John Madden 2005 for PS2 (£6.99, bargain) but simply can't face sitting down and learning it. And sitting down with a guy I don't know at my house, learning American football rules is just a bit, well, odd. So I thought that maybe I could have a superbowl party for Superbowl XLI in February 2007 for all those American people living in the UK. Any Americans that e-mailed me, new American readers (howdy) or people who know Americans are very welcome to get in touch with me and get together with other Americans at my house next February. I'll buy some nice weak beer, lots of unhealthy food and some flags (Americans love flags) and people can teach me the rules. Look forward to hearing from you Yanks.

I think I may have been the only person to never own any NFL / John Madden games - nor did I own any ice hockey games. Although I had seen before aforementioned games at my cousins house on his mega-drive. I prefered mario & luigi ;)
Hi, i was looking over your blog and didn't
quite find what I was looking for. I'm looking for
different ways to earn money... I did find this though...
a place where you can make some nice extra cash secret shopping.
I made over $900 last month having fun!
make extra money
To start with, had a look on that "make extra cash" site! wouldnt risk it, they want your card details and you have to pay then $34 to start off, i reckon its bullp00!
In response to the blog, that party sounds a mental idea, having randoms americans in ya house! why not, learn the rules, then challenge the yanks to a game! im sure a rugby pitch would be good enough to use, then beat them at their own game! this makes not only a great stroy, but gives you the chance to inflict pain!

Hang about. An internet site, wanting some money, and claiming you can make $900 a month for having fun... and you don't think it is real? I am appalled by your cynicism and apparent lack of concern about this honest gentlemen posting a harmless advert for his small business. Shame on you.
I haven't actually checked with the missus that she minds a load of random Yanks in the house. Presume she'll be okay.
There are some naive people out there, who may just believe it! as this site has been in the media, jade goody may well be a viewer and fancy her chances with it, lets face it, she can only appear inso many ok! mags before people get tired!
So this party isnt even approved by the boss? I'd love to be a fly on the wall when you explain that one!
John....get a load of Americans who like playing their bizarre game, to play a load of British Rugby players for your charity page. M
Hi John,
Been reading your site for a while now. Have been in stitches sometimes at some of the stuff you get up to. I agree with anonymous above - you should get a load of yanks to play a load of English people at American football and then at "soccer", charge an entrance fee and hence make loads of money for charidee...
Hi John,
Count me in! I think a superbowl party would be a fantastic idea, as an American living in the SW I hardly ever run across others of my kind (but do get a lot of curious folks commenting on my accent lol) Let me know the details next year and I'll be there. BTW, I grew up in the bay area of California and soccer was much more popular for young people than football. Go figure!
check out your local team If your lucky they could even be in the play offs for the Britbowl www.gridironuk.co.uk
I'm a bit slow......but just realised that you were only 1 goal away from winnig you first 3 timer. And it was an own goal at that! Gutted for you.

I know, so close. It was Wolves that ruined it for me. Ah well, plenty of other opportunities...
